Care guide

A little care goes a long way.

Your Almighty Sponge is made from real natural materials — burlap, organic latex foam, and cotton thread. Treat it right and it'll hold up for weeks. Here's everything you need to know.

Rinse it out after every use

This one's easy — just make it a habit. After each round of dishes, hold the sponge under warm running water and squeeze it out a few times until the water runs clear. You're flushing out food bits, soap, and grease before they have a chance to sit. Takes about ten seconds.

Warm water works better than cold for breaking down grease.

Let it breathe between uses

Don't leave it lying flat in a wet sink. Stand it upright, hang it on a hook, or set it somewhere with airflow. Natural materials need to dry out fully between uses — that's what keeps them fresh. A sponge that stays damp is a sponge that gets funky fast.

A small dish rack or suction hook near the sink works great.

Do a vinegar soak once a week

Mix equal parts warm water and white vinegar in a bowl, drop the sponge in, and let it soak for five minutes. Give it a good rinse after. That's it. White vinegar is a natural antibacterial that neutralizes odors and keeps the fibers clean without breaking them down the way bleach does.

Sunday night works well — fresh sponge to start the week.

Toss it in the washing machine

Need a deeper clean? The Almighty Sponge is washing machine safe. Throw it in with a regular load on a gentle or normal cycle — cold or warm water, mild detergent. It comes out fresh and ready to go. Just skip the dryer and let it air dry completely before using it again.

A mesh laundry bag keeps it from getting lost in the drum.

Skip the bleach

We get it — bleach feels thorough. But it's genuinely hard on natural materials. It degrades the latex foam and weakens the burlap fibers, which means your sponge wears out faster and you're buying more. Stick to plant-based dish soaps. They clean just as well and won't eat through the materials.

If you want extra sanitizing power, the vinegar soak has you covered.

Know when it's time to swap

With regular care, each sponge holds up for 4 to 6 weeks of daily use. When the burlap starts fraying noticeably or the foam stops bouncing back, that's your sign. Don't push it past that point — a worn-out sponge doesn't clean as well and can start to smell no matter how well you maintain it.

Mark the date you opened it on the packaging so you don't have to guess.

Compost it — don't trash it

This is the whole point. When your sponge is done, cut it into a few smaller pieces and toss it in your compost bin. The burlap, latex foam, and cotton thread are all compostable and will break down completely. No microplastics. No landfill guilt. Just back to the earth.

Smaller pieces break down faster in a home compost setup.

One thing to keep in mind

The Almighty Sponge is built for everyday dishware, cookware, and countertops. It's not designed for cast iron seasoning or tasks that call for an abrasive-only scrubber. For those jobs, a dedicated cast iron scraper is the right tool.
